SIX TYPES OF SOCIAL MEDIA 

What is Social Media ?
-Social media are computer-mediated technologies that facilitate the creation and sharing of information, ideas, career interests and other forms of expression via virtual communities and networks.
1.Social Network- sites that allow you to connect with other people with the same interest.
 examples: Facebook &  Google +
2.Bookmarking Sites- sites that allow to store and manage links to different websites and resources.
 examples: Stumbleupon & Pinterest
3.Social News- sites that allow users to post their own news .
 examples: Reddit  & Digg 
4.Media Sharing Sites - sites that allow you to upload and share media content like videos,images and music 
 examples: Youtube &  Instagram
5.Micro blogging- sites that focus on short updates from the user 
examples: Twitte &  Plurk
6. Blogs & Forum- sites that discuss a certain topic and allows the user to interact with other people.
 examples: Blogger , Word press & Tumblr

      The difference betwen blog and forum is Blogs are like a keynote speech where the speaker is in control of the discussion, but allows questions and comments from the audience and forum are like social mixers, where everyone is at equal level, milling about and discussing with others.       The disadvantages of social media are first of all decreases face to face communication to other people ,it can cause laziness in people and can cause distractions .
